Favourite Green Smoothie



If you are new to green smoothies, this is a great one to start you with.  You will be addicted in no time once you’ve tasted it and felt all the goodness of all those vitamins and minerals going into your system.  It’s a great way to get most of your five a day in one easy, quick and no fuss meal.

It’s ideal for breakfast especially if you are in a rush.  It’s also great as a mid morning or afternoon snack to keep you going and chase away those sugary cravings you might have (bikini season is here!).  You can take it with you to  work, just make sure you store your smoothie in an airtight container and then ideally in the fridge where it will keep for a few hours.  Ideally, to keep all the nutrients to their highest value, it’s best to serve straight away but I always use to take one with me to work to sip throughout the morning.

Start with a small handful of greens and gradually up the quantity to what your taste buds are happy with.  I like a fair amount of spinach in mine.  The strong iron taste and the vibrant green colour makes me happy and feeling rejuvenated.


You could use kale instead of spinach, it has a milder taste but the colour is not so bright.  My husband like his green smoothies best with kale and with the amount we have in our small veggie patch, I should probably start putting more in my daily smoothies.

A few chunks of frozen or fresh mango are also a very nice addition to this smoothie.

The wheatgrass powder is totally optional.  I don’t always add it but as it’s  packed full with vitamins and minerals, it’s always a good thing to include it in your diet.  It has some great detox and anti ageing properties.  Not that I want to blame my children, but I have definitely seen an increase in my numbers on wrinkles since they’ve entered my life so I need all the help I can get!

Don’t let the colour frighten you, it really is delicious, I am not pretending.  Try it, you will love it and your body will be very happy for it.  You’ll be amazed at the amount of greens you will be eating.

Favourite Green Smoothie

Serves 1
Dietary Vegan, Vegetarian
Meal type Beverage, Breakfast, Smoothie, Snack


  • 1 Banana (frozen)
  • 1 Orange
  • 2 Large Handful spinach (start with a smaller amount if preferred)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Date (or small handful of raisins)


  • 1 teaspoon Wheatgrass powder


Put all the ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a large glass and enjoy.
